In July 2018 the Australian Government will introduce a new child care fee assistance package, which will include a new payment known as the Child Care Subsidy.

The new Child Care Subsidy (CCS) will replace the existing child care fee payments known as the Child Care Benefit  (CCB) and the Child Care Rebate (CCR).

The CCS will be paid directly to the service provider.  Families will pay the amount owed after the CCS has been applied to the service fee – this is often referred to as the “out of pocket”  or “gap” fee.

The factors that will determine your family’s level of CCS support include:
  • Combined family income
  • Activity level of both parents to be assessed via an “Activity Test”
(i.e. hours of paid work, self-employed work, approved training or study, and voluntary work)
  • Type of child care services you use.

You can read more about the new Child Care Subsidy and how to estimate the amount you would be eligible for here.
