From time to time, early learning service providers may change their business name or business structure (ie. sole trader, partnership, family trust, company, unit trust) for any number of reasons. 

If you make changes to your business such as your business structure, name, or contact details, you need to tell all the stakeholders in your business and relevant agencies, organisations and governments.

Government support for early learning service providers
In view of the number of emergency and natural disaster situations being experienced across Australia, and the potential for continued disruption over the summer period, the Department of Education (DET) has launched a new webpage which contains links to useful information about the resources available to early learning services affected by the fires or other emergencies.

The DET website includes information on the following: 

  • For the purposes of the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) - What is a local emergency?
  • What if the service I operate is in or near an emergency declared area?
  • Assistance for service providers
  • Reporting requirements and additional absences
  • Service closures, and
  • Assistance for families.

Total and Permanent Disablement cover
When you first joined your super fund, you probably received default Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) insurance cover. This type of insurance provides you with a lump sum payment if, while you are an insured member, you become totally and permanently disabled and are unable to work (in any occupation based on your education, training and experience).

Increased competition in the early learning sector, along with an oversupply of services in some areas, has led many centres to develop strong branding and marketing campaigns.
Marketing is more relevant in the early learning sector than ever, as individual services strive to offer a point of difference from their competitors and make their offer even more appealing.

In this context, some centres have even offered incentives for families to enrol with them, such as iPads or other tablets/electronic devices. This practice has recently attracted media attention, with discussions about it featuring on Australia's breakfast television shows and also in the newspapers
