COVID-19: The possibility of Mandated Closures, Stand Down and Employee wages
You may be wondering how to communicate with your workforce and how to respond to the COVID-19 virus that is impacting our community and the economy.
As ECEC operators you will need to make decisions over the coming week(s) that take into account:
1. the health and wellbeing of the children and families that you educate and care for;
2. Government mandates and medical advice from the WHO;
3. the Work, Health and Safety of your employees and any risks of continuing to work and travel to and from the workplace;
4. economic concerns for your centre’s livelihood and the Australian economy;
5. employment law considerations in relation to leave entitlements and the payment of employee’s wages.
In order to prepare for the coming week(s), we have provided some legal advice from our legal partner - Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA) in relation to a number of possible scenarios that you may be faced with and how to minimise the adverse impact to your centre, the families you care for and your staff.
We have shared this advice directly with our members via email.
